The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state has postponed its scheduled primaries earlier set for Monday June 12 to select a candidate for the vacant Osun West Senatorial district till Tuesday June 13.
The postponement is due to an appeal lodged by Senator Mudashir Hussein, a commissioner in the state, who was disqualified by a 5-man screening committee.
The commissioner was disqualified because the guidelines and electoral law of the APC stipulate that an individual in public service employment must, as a matter of importance, resign or withdraw his/her appointment 30days to the day of the election.
However, Hussein has approached a 3-man appeal panel headed by the ex-deputy governor of Kogi state, Abdullahi Bello, to seek for a redress, as he claims to have resigned on June 6.
Lani Baderinwa, the commissioner for information and strategy in Osun, while announcing the postponement on Monday, said further information on the primaries process and appeal panel proceedings would be made public.
”The APC appeal panel has postponed the West Senate primary to Tuesday, June 13,2017 as against earlier scheduled Monday, June 12, 2017. Further information shall be made available soon,” he said.
