Chelsea are reportedly seeking to tie Eden Hazard down to a new long-term contract by making him the Premier League’s highest paid player.
Hazard’s father Thierry Hazard has suggested in an interview with Le Soir that the reason the former Lille star has turned down an offer from the London club is because he is waiting to see Los Blancos’ intentions in the summer.
Despite Antonio Conte being eager to strengthen his squad in both the January and summer transfer windows, Real Madrid have long been linked with the Belgian, yet have never made concrete steps to bring him to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
According to reports from England, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich upon hearing the claims by Hazard’s father has immediately got to work on a new contract for their best player.
An offer of £338,000 per week would represent a significant increase on the net £200,000 per week salary he currently earns according to a report in The Telegraph.
The new salary offer would also propel him ahead of Paul Pogba as the highest paid footballer in England’s top flight.
