FC Barcelona has announced the termination of Xavi’s contract as manager, effective immediately.
The decision was made after a meeting between Xavi, club president Joan Laporta, and sporting director Deco on Friday. Xavi will take charge of the team for the final time on Sunday against Sevilla in their last La Liga match of the season.
According to the club’s statement, Xavi will not continue as first team coach in the 2024-25 season, and the club will announce a new first team structure in the coming days. Hansi Flick, former Bayern Munich boss, is set to replace Xavi as the new manager.
Xavi, a former Spain midfielder and Barcelona legend, had been contracted until 2025 but had announced his intention to leave in January before being persuaded to stay in April. However, his recent comments about the club’s financial struggles reportedly angered Laporta, leading to his departure.
Barcelona thanked Xavi for his work as a coach and his contributions to the club as a player and team captain, wishing him success in his future endeavors.
The club will announce the new first team structure in the coming days, with Flick set to take charge.
