French national team’s all-time top scorer, Olivier Giroud, has revealed that he will retire from international duty after the Euro 2024 championship in Germany.
The 37-year-old forward made the announcement in an interview with L’Equipe, stating that he wants to make way for younger players and avoid playing one season too many.
Giroud, who has been selected in Coach Didier Deschamps’ provisional squad for the Euros, expressed his desire to go as far as possible in the competition with his generation. He also mentioned that winning the European Championship would allow him to say he has won everything, aside from the Premier League.
The veteran striker has agreed to join Los Angeles FC in the MLS after the Euros and will end his international career with a record 57 goals in 131 appearances for France.
