Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has declared his willingness to account for his eight-year tenure if required by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Speaking in Abuja at the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session, an event celebrating his administration’s achievements in education, Obaseki stated that he has nothing to fear and is ready to submit to any inquiries regarding his tenure.

Obaseki, who has focused significantly on education reform during his administration, explained that he prioritized his work over political distractions.

“I’m not afraid of the EFCC. Why should I be? What is important is focus,” he remarked. “If the EFCC calls on me, I will hand myself over; I have nothing to hide.”

The governor used the event to highlight his legacy, particularly in education.

He emphasized the achievements of the EdoBEST program, which includes the enrollment of over 400,000 children and the establishment of a technical college.

Unlike previous administrations, Obaseki said, his government provided concrete educational solutions, stating, “We are not just talking about teacher training or increasing enrollments. You can come to Edo and see the data.”

Obaseki also addressed the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging the party to focus on alleviating the hardships faced by Nigerians rather than engaging in political vendettas.

He expressed concern about the bitterness in the political landscape and emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of the people.

“The suffering is too much. We, who are privileged, should focus on making a positive impact, not on side issues like vendetta,” he said.

Reflecting on his tenure, Obaseki said he leaves office with a sense of accomplishment, proud of the strides his administration has made in improving education and the lives of the people in Edo State.
