Former aviation minister, Amechi confirmed Dead

Chief Mbazulike Amechi, Nigeria’s first aviation minister, has passed away.

Amechi, 93, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning in his hometown of Ukpor, Anambra State.

Okay.ng learnt that the late minister was one of the extremely few living members of the Zikist Movement, which was headed by Nnamdi Azikiwe, the nation’s first president.

Amechi also served as a member of the Anambra Elders Forum, the highest ranking state advisory council, whose chairman is Chief Emeka Anyaoku.

The Chief Mbazulike Amechi (Dara Akunwafor), Nationalist and First Republic Minister of Aviation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, transitioned peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, according to a statement from his family: “With total deference to the will of the Almighty God, the Ume Amechi, Ezeana lhinede families, and the Umu Mmara kindred of Amihe Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

“We give God praise for the full life he had, the lives he impacted, and his dedication to the nation and God. Please remember us in your prayers and thoughts at this difficult time.
