Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he has no regrets for opposing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, stated that his decision was rooted in the PDP’s failure to uphold fairness, equity, and justice.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Wike explained that while he supported the PDP at the state level during the election, he chose not to back the party’s presidential candidate due to what he perceived as the party’s abandonment of inclusivity.

“For the presidential election, I said I was going to support equity, fairness, and justice, and in the others, I will support my party. That was why we won the governorship and National Assembly elections,” Wike said.

He further stated, “For the presidential election, I have no apology for working against the PDP because I don’t believe in injustice and not allowing other people to participate. I said I won’t support injustice and have no apology to render to anybody.”

Wike’s remarks followed accusations regarding his association with Tony Okocha, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Rivers State.

Addressing these claims, Wike clarified that Okocha was not his political appointee, despite their friendship.

“Tony Okocha, not my man. They fought me during the governorship election. He’s my friend, but that does not mean I brought him to the APC,” Wike noted.
