Nigerian entertainment industry mourns the loss of veteran actor Amaechi Muonagor, who passed away at the age of 62 after a prolonged battle with kidney failure.

The sad news was confirmed by his cousin and renowned singer, Tony Oneweek, via Instagram.

Amaechi Muonagor’s health struggles became public knowledge in November 2023 when he revealed that he had been battling paralysis on the left side of his body for several months, a condition he attributed to kidney failure.

The actor disclosed that he developed the illness while on a movie set, marking the beginning of a challenging health journey.

Throughout his battle with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke, Amaechi showed remarkable resilience, undergoing weekly dialysis and physiotherapy at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra. Despite the medical interventions, his condition continued to deteriorate over time.

Born on August 20, 1962, in Idemili, Anambra State, Amaechi Muonagor made significant contributions to Nigeria’s film industry. After completing his youth service in 1989, he commenced his career at the News Agency of Nigeria before transitioning into acting.

Muonagor’s notable role as Akunatakasi in ‘Taboo 1’ marked his debut in the movie industry, setting the stage for a successful acting career that spanned several decades.
