The lawmaker representing Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency in Katsina State, Sani Bello Mashi, was yesterday kidnapped at Birnin Gwari town in Katsina State.

The lawmaker elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was abducted at gunpoint by some armed men shortly after he visited his farm in the town.

It was gathered that Mashi was with his driver at the time of the incident but the suspected bandits ordered his driver to flee with the legislator’s vehicle while they whisked him away on a motorcycle.

According to dependable sources, two young men on a motorcycle approached the lawmaker’s vehicle, waving at him to stop and assist them, but unfortunately for him, other members of the gang who were hiding in the bush, swopped on him immediately he stopped to attend to the duo he thought were his supporters in the area.

Efforts to rescue the kidnapped lawmaker reportedly commenced in Katsina State shortly after the incident was reported by the driver.

Efforts to reach the police spokesman of his home state, Katsina Police Command, DSP Salisu Agaisa, were futile at the time of filing this report as calls to his phone went unanswered.
