The Nigeria Police Force has condemned a violent attack by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as the Shiite group, on a police checkpoint in Abuja on Sunday.
The attack, which occurred at Wuse Junction by the traffic light, resulted in the deaths of two police officers and left three others unconscious and receiving treatment in the hospital.
According to Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the attackers used machetes, improvised explosive devices, and knives to target the police personnel on duty. Three police patrol vehicles were also set ablaze during the incident.
In response to the attack, the police have arrested 97 suspects and recovered several weapons used in the attack. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and maintain law and order in the country.
The police are currently investigating the incident to uncover the full extent of the attack and prevent future occurrences of violence against police officers.
