Earlier today, the news broke that the National and State Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun state, has nullified the election of Senator Buruji Kasahamu, who represented Ogun East senatorial district.

Kashamu is a controversial politician who has always triggered mixed reactions and feelings, when his name appeared in headlines of national dailies.

Nigerians took to social media to discuss the breaking news and express their opinion on the matter. They also recalled that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NASS) has recently named Kashamu as the ‘Golden Man of the Year’. See tweets below

So long as Obasanjo is still pulling some strings, Buruji Kashamu is not a free man. — Dipo Awojide (@OgbeniDipo) October 9, 2015

Interesting to note that Buruji Kashamu may end up in a US jail while Diezani Madueke ends up in a UK jail. At least, better than 9ja jails.

Maybe Buruji Kashamu can now represent the NANS Senatorial district at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly….. — Mr Kermit (@O_ssai) October 9, 2015

Enough of Buruji Kashamu, he’s gotten one of his many comeuppances, the rest will soon follow. Let’s move to the nominees again.

And to NANS who gave Buruji Kashamu an award of excellence, I say the shame is on you. — Mr Abiodun (@Superziz100) October 9, 2015

If NANS really wanted to honour Buruji Kashamu, it should be for his election: elected & unelected same year. That deserves some award. Lol

— Osita Odafi (@ThisIsOsita) October 9, 2015

NANS award-winner, Senator Buruji Kashamu is no longer a member of the Senate. He gets to keep his award though.pic.twitter.com/LSAmZwYHaz” — Ifalola Ibukun (@ibukunnimi)October 9, 2015

Wailing wailers be like “Buruji Kashamu was witch hunted out of the National Assembly”

— Onyema Donald (@OnyemaDonald) October 9, 2015

No matter how long, justice will always prevail and so,d NANS’ man of d year award winner, Buruji Kashamu has lost his seat at d Senate.

Buruji Kashamu should take this solemn and humbling moment to stay off politics and clear himself of the drug scandals. @ogundamisi@Oludidi
