Transcorp Power Limited (TPL), a prominent power subsidiary of Nigeria’s leading conglomerate, Transnational Corporation Plc (TRANSCORP), has secured a significant position as a member of the Executive Board of the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
The appointment was confirmed at the 18th Session of the WAPP General Assembly held on November 10, 2023, in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
TPL joined WAPP as a member in 2019 and has actively participated in the body since then.
The WAPP Executive Board plays a crucial role in implementing decisions made by the WAPP General Assembly, the highest decision-making body composed of all member utilities.
With this appointment, TPL is strategically positioned to contribute to the realization of WAPP’s mission and objectives, holding a key role in shaping the future of energy in the ECOWAS sub-region.
Commenting on the appointment, Peter Ikenga, the Managing Director/CEO of Transcorp Power Limited, affirmed TPL’s commitment to the role.
“As a member of the WAPP Executive Board, Transcorp Power Limited is committed to our core purpose of improving lives and transforming Africa and to actively contribute to the realisation of WAPP’s mission and objectives. We believe that collaboration within the WAPP community is crucial for achieving sustainable progress in the power sector, and we are excited to play a key role in shaping the future of energy in the ECOWAS sub-region,” Ikenga said.
In May 2023, TPL achieved a milestone by becoming the first power company to receive its certificate of discharge from the National Council of Privatization.
This recognition reflects the company’s sustained corporate transformation since its acquisition by Transcorp in 2013 under the Power Sector Transformation.
Celebrating its 10th-year anniversary recently, TPL stands out as a key player in the Nigerian and West African Power Sector.
