President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Edo State governor-elect, for his victory in the recently concluded governorship election, Okay.ng reports.
Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, emerged victorious with 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 247,274 votes.
Olumide Akpata, representing the Labour Party (LP), came in third with 22,763 votes.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised Okpebholo’s win as a testament to the people’s support for the APC, while advising the governor-elect to be gracious in victory.
“President Bola Tinubu congratulates Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Saturday’s Edo State governorship election, on his victory at the polls,” the statement read.
The president urged Okpebholo not to gloat over his victory but instead view it as a challenging call to service.
He encouraged the governor-elect to unite the people of Edo State and collaborate with his political rivals for the state’s development.
“He urges Senator Okpebholo not to gloat over his victory but to see it as a challenging call to service. He encourages him to demonstrate magnanimity by reaching out to his political rivals and uniting the people of Edo State to ensure its development.”
Tinubu also commended the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting a largely peaceful and successful election.
