Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund TETFund Sonny Echono has been named a fellow of the Nigerian Association for Educational Administration and Planning NAEP, just 24 hours after receiving the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) from President Muhammadu Buhari.

The National President of NAEP, Professor Hauwa Imam, stated at the investiture on Wednesday in Abuja that the honor was given in honor of his outstanding leadership in the field of education, commitment to quality control, and provision of social services.

According to Professor Imam, more outstanding administrators in the field of education have also received fellowships to promote excellence in the application of policies.

“Over the years, the Nigerian education system has been plagued with problems, not because of the absence of good policies, but the implementation of the policy,” she said, explaining that the program was set up to enable scholars and practitioners to fashion out new strategies for effective policy implementation, Professor Imam said.

Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, remarked that the fellowship is a deserving acknowledgement of efforts to revive a planning culture in the overall administration of the education sector.

The new career path policy adopted by the federal government, he pointed out, has made it mandatory for people who want to lead educational institutions to have the required professional experience and registration.

“We also believed that those charged with running our institutions should not only possess academic credentials but also professional know-how and skills.
