TechWay’s recent webinar online, “Emerging Trends in Software Development: A Roadmap for New Developers,” held on Saturday, April 22, 2024, attracted over 300 budding tech enthusiasts and newcomers in the industry from around the world.

Hosted by Thought Promotions and anchored by Gabriel Olufemi-Legend, the event featured esteemed speakers in the tech industry, including Elizabeth Adegunwa, Aimee Tacchi, and Abdulahi Omotayo, offering valuable insights and personal experiences to the participants.

Opening the event Gabriel explained the purpose of the gathering and why it was important for beginners in the industry.

‘The goal of this event is to provide budding tech enthusiasts and newcomers to the industry with a valuable opportunity to learn from industry experts and gain insights into the latest trends and best practices in software development. As technology continues to shape our world, it is crucial for aspiring developers to stay informed and equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in this dynamic field. During the 1 hour, 30-minute session, Aimee Tacchi a software developer emphasized the importance of continuous learning in the tech industry, stating, “If you have got a lot of passion and motivation, then it’s a good job to do. It pays well; it’s really rewarding, and when you learn things and it finally clicks, you’re like, ‘Oh my God, that’s so great.” Aimee’s words inspired the audience to stay motivated and passionate about their work while continuously seeking to learn and grow within the industry.

Elizabeth Adegunwa stressed the importance of building a strong foundation in the tech industry, offering practical advice to both junior developers and those already in the industry she said, “Your foundation is very very key and if you skip this it’s going to be a little a lot of challenges for you when you start applying for jobs. While you are trying to create your foundation It’s also very good to put those things you have learnt into theoretical knowledge into practice by creating the practical aspect if you’re already in the industry you have um experiences and projects you’ve worked on and then that would be easy to show to employees employers that want to employ you but if you’re a junior you don’t have a job experience you are still learning you can get like um projects to work on you can get free resources online like Frontend Mentor code academy that can give you projects that you can work on they will give you the assets the pictures and everything you need and then you just create a project out of what they sent to you and then um showcasing your skills the um projects that you’ve built.”

She further encouraged participants to do all they can to showcase their skills and experiences to potential employers.

Abdulahi Omotayo shared his perspective on entering the design space, highlighting the significance of gaining experience and learning from senior professionals. “If you’re a designer and you want to enter a new space I always recommend going into working full-time to understand the design space of wherever you find yourself. When I was in Nigeria I worked full-time in the design field and I gained experience. You’re not only gaining experience in the design field you’re also getting experience in leadership because if you start as an intern designer whatever you pick from your senior designer you will learn it.” He said, he also encouraged participants to embrace challenges and use them as opportunities for growth and improvement, emphasizing the value of persistence and hard work in achieving success.
