In a thrilling match at the Brisbane Stadium, the Nigerian Super Falcons achieved a historic victory by defeating Australia 3-2.
The win marks their first triumph in the competition and their fifth victory in the history of the Women’s World Cup.
Prior to this encounter, the Super Falcons, who are nine-time African champions, had recorded only four wins in the history of the competition.
These victories came in the 1999 edition against North Korea and Denmark, as well as against Canada in 2011 and a 2-0 win over North Korea in the 2019 edition.
With their latest triumph, the Super Falcons have significantly boosted their chances of progressing to the round of 16, especially after Canada secured a 2-1 victory against Ireland on Wednesday.
