Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, has officially received the report of the 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.
The SGF assured that the report would soon be forwarded to President Bola Tinubu for further action.
Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the SGF, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
President Tinubu inaugurated the Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji-led Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage on January 30, in accordance with the provisions of the Minimum Wage Act, 2019.
The committee was tasked with recommending a new national minimum wage for Nigerian workers in both public and private sectors.
“The Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage has concluded its assignment and submitted its report to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Monday, 10th June, 2024,” Imohiosen stated.
“A formal presentation of the Report will be made to Mr. President for appropriate action, when the leadership of the Organised Labour as well as representatives of Government and Organised Private Sector, who are presently in Geneva, Switzerland for the ongoing International Labour Organisation ILO Conference, return to the country”.
The report’s proposal of a N62,000 minimum wage has already sparked discussions, with organized labour rejecting the figure.
