You get the usual 8-inch IPS display in the package. This has a WXGA resolution of 800 x 1,280 pixels for a pixel density of roughly 189 ppi. Image quality can be better than what this looks to deliver.

Camera

Tablets are not the devices of choice when it comes to photography. But the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) shows some improvements in the camera department. It now comes with an 8 megapixel rear camera – its predecessor offered a 5 megapixel unit.

The main camera has an aperture size of f/1.9, autofocus and LED flash for better shot quality, including in low-light conditions. Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) shoots Full HD (1080p) videos. The front-facing camera also gets a bump from 2 megapixels to 5 megapixels.

Hardware and Software

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) houses a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. The Cortex-A53 CPU, clocked at 1.4 GHz, pairs with an Adreno 308 GPU and 2GB RAM. You get just 16 GB of onboard storage, but this is extendable via a dedicated microSD card slot. Out of the box, the slate boots Android 7.1 Nougat operating system.

Other Spec and Features

Another area where the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) offers upgrade is battery. Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) also comes with a larger 5,000mAh Li-Ion unit. You should expect this to last up to 14 hours of multimedia usage, according to Samsung.

The 4G LTE-enabled tablet offers dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n with Wi-Fi Direct and hotspot. You also get Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, GLONASS and Beidou among the features. But this is not an ideal device if you wish to use two SIMs at the same time – it accepts only one Nano SIM.

Pricing and availability

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) is expected at a price of VND 6,490,000 (around 103,000 Naira). We do not have official price for Nigeria, Ghana, or Kenya.
