Powerlifting: Nigeria’s Lucy Ejike wins bronze at Tokyo Paralympics

Team Nigeria won its second medal at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Paralympics thanks to Lucy Ejike, who picked up a bronze in the women’s powerlifting event on Saturday.

Competing in the – 61kg Ejike’s lift of 130kg which was only good enough for a third-place finish.

Mexico’s Amalia Perez (131kg) and Uzbekistan’s Ruza Kuzieva (130kg), matched Ejike’s opening weight of 130kg.

She failed her last two attempts at 135kg and had to settle for Bronze.

It would be recalled that Latifat Tijani won Team Nigeria’s first medal after clinching gold in powerlifting.

Team Nigeria are currently in 27th position on the medal standings with one gold and one bronze.

China are number with 21 gold, 13 silver and 19 bronze while Great Britain are second with 12 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze.

In fourth place are the United States of America who has nine gold, six silver and three bronze.
