The national electricity grid has suffered yet another collapse, marking the 12th occurrence in 2024.
The incident, confirmed via the official handle of Nigeria’s National Grid, occurred at approximately 2:09 pm on Wednesday.
“A major grid setback has occurred, and the restoration is to commence,” the grid’s handler posted.
In a separate confirmation, Jos Electricity Distribution Company (Jos Disco) disclosed in a statement to its customers that the collapse happened around 1:33 pm, resulting in a widespread power outage across its service areas.
Dr. Friday Elijah, Head of Corporate Communications at Jos Disco, assured customers that efforts were underway to restore power supply.
“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored back to normalcy,” he said.
This latest incident continues a troubling pattern, as the national grid has now collapsed 12 times in 2024, with 11 occurrences between January and November.
