A police officer from the Arkila Division, Sokoto metropolis, Corporal Ibrahim Yusuf , has landed in trouble after he allegedly shot dead a private security guard, Abubakar Mohammed, attached to the state Independent Power Project (IPP), in Abuja on Tuesday night.

According to Leadership newspaper report, the victim, a guard with the Crown Continental Limited (CCL), a private security outfit based in Abuja, was allegedly shot by Yusuf while he was on guard at the IPP site.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Al-Mustapha Sani, stated that the officer involved had been disarmed and detained for further questioning.

Narrating how the incident happened, the branch manager/ legal officer of CCL, Barrister Ahmed Adewoyin, said he received a distressed call from his men stationed at the state IPP site on Wednesday morning, that a member of his staff had been shot by a policeman.

According to Adewoyin, the cop was cocking his gun and some of the security men on duty at the site asked him what he was doing, only for him to respond that he can “shoot anybody and go scot-free after sometime in jail”.

It was gathered that before someone says bingo, the cop had shot the security guard.

The bullet was said to have penetrated Mohammed’s upper arm and went through the shoulder before exiting through his shoulder blade.

The branch manager added that investigation revealed that it was the third time that Corporal Yusuf had shot someone dead for no cause.

“How could he have done that three times and no one did anything about it, letting him remain in the force?,” Adewoyin queried.
