The Federal Government has declared a 24-hour closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for Iyana Oworonshoki-Lagos Island-bound traffic, effective from midnight on Sunday, February 18, to midnight on Monday, February 19.

Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday night. The emergency measure is aimed at facilitating the repair of a crucial section of the bridge currently undergoing comprehensive maintenance.

According to Kesha, motorists traveling from the Island and heading towards Oworonshoki will still have unrestricted access to the bridge throughout the duration of the 24-hour closure.

“The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, wishes to inform the motoring public that the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos will not be available for 24 hours for motorists from Iyana Oworonshoki-Lagos Island bound,” Kesha stated.

She further clarified, “Traffic resumes on Monday by 12.00 am on this bound. However, motorists coming out of the Island and heading towards Oworonshoki will have full access throughout the 24-hour closure.”

The temporary closure is essential to enable the ministry to conduct effective repairs on the critical section of the bridge, Kesha emphasized. She urged motorists to use alternative routes, follow the directives of traffic regulatory officers, and exercise patience as the government works to enhance the bridge’s infrastructure.

“Consequent upon the above, Lagos Island Bound Motorists are hereby advised to use alternative routes,” Kesha advised, listing the Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams Avenue-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS route as one of the viable alternatives for affected commuters.
