Former Minister of Finance for Nigeria, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has thanked the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for supporting her candidacy for the position of director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Okonjo-Iweala expressed her appreciation in a tweet she shared on Monday, June 22, 2020.
“A big thank you to the Economic Community of West African States @ecowas_cedeao for supporting my candidacy for DG of WTO,” she wrote.
ECOWAS president, Mahamadou Issoufou, in a statement on Friday said the decision to support Okonjo-Iweala’s candidacy for the WTO job was base on her “established reputation as a fearless reformer, her excellent negotiating and political skills, her experience of over 30 years.”
