Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo arrived in Minna, the capital of Niger State, on Sunday evening to meet with ex-head of state Ibrahim Babangida, Okay.ng reports.
Obasanjo’s visit to Minna followed his attendance at the 90th birthday celebration of Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, in Edo State.
The meeting with Babangida also included former head of state Abdulsalami Abubakar and ex-National Security Adviser Aliyu Gusau.
Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo’s media aide, confirmed the meeting to journalists, noting that the former leaders convened to celebrate Babangida’s birthday and discuss matters of national interest.
Although specific details of their discussion were not disclosed, there is speculation that they addressed pressing national issues, particularly the current economic challenges facing Nigeria.
“The opportunity came yesterday, hence the visits to both Benin and Minna,” Akinyemi said.
He explained that Obasanjo was unable to attend Babangida’s 83rd birthday in August due to his busy schedule and seized the chance to congratulate him personally.
Akinyemi added that Obasanjo acknowledged Babangida’s contributions to Nigeria and celebrated his good health.
