The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) is to reopen its orientation camp in Yobe State for fresh graduates five years after it was shut down due to activities of the Boko Haram insurgents.

Yobe State NYSC coordinator, Mr Jauro David, disclosed this during a courtesy call to the emir of Fika and chairman of council of chiefs, Dr Muhammadu Ibn Abali Muhammadu Idrissa, at his palace in Potiskum, Yobe state.

He said that, this year’s 2016 National Youths Service would hold in the state because of the return of peace across the state.

“Let me tell you one thing, the issues of Boko Haram in the state is over. Hosting the corps members in Yobe would tell Nigerians that normalcy has resumed. Everything now is going as usual, nothing will happen again in the state by God’s grace,” he said.

He called on the state governor Ibrahim Gaidam to renovate the NYSC Orientation Camp in Fika, which has been abandoned for five years due to the activities of Boko Haram insurgents and fear of massacre of corps members in the state by the terrorists.

He added that, “We have written a letter to Governor Ibrahim Gaidam telling him to consider our request, we were here in your palace, your royal highness to talk to the governor to permit us to use the College of Administrative and Business Studies (CABS) Potiskum for our October this year orientation camp.”

Responding, the emir assured them that he would liaise with the state Governor  Gaidam and other stakeholders to ensure that this year orientation camp is held in the state without any fear.

“We are aware of the importance of hosting NYSC members in Yobe state as their services are beneficial to our host communities. We will try our best to see that things will go smoothly during the orientation exercise in the state.
