In a robust security initiative ahead of the Eid-El-Kabir celebrations, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of over 28,000 operatives across the country. This strategic move aims to guarantee a peaceful and secure holiday period for all Nigerians.

The directive, issued by the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi, mobilizes personnel from a wide array of specialized units. These include the Intelligence Directorate, Special Female Squad, Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Quick Response Tactical Team, Counter Terrorism Unit, Operations Department, and the Special Weapon and Tactics team.

In a statement signed by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, Dr. Audi emphasized that the deployment forms part of the corps’ continuous efforts to protect critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as to safeguard lives and property nationwide. “We are aware that the festive period often presents opportunities for criminal activities,” Audi warned, underscoring the importance of preemptive action to deter such threats.

During a recent strategic security meeting convened with top management, state commandants, and heads of formations, the Commandant General stressed the critical role of intelligence gathering. He called for enhanced community engagement, noting that “credible tip-offs” are vital to the success of security operations. “No single agency has a monopoly on tackling insecurity,” he remarked, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts.

Dr. Audi further charged the 36 state commandants and the Federal Capital Territory Command to foster synergy with other security agencies and local communities. This cooperation, he explained, is essential in addressing a broad spectrum of security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, vandalism, illegal bunkering, and conflicts between farmers and herders.

“We also call on members of the public to support this course of action so that together we can attain the goal of effective security coverage across board,” Audi appealed to citizens.

In addition, the Commandant General urged private security operators to play an active role by promptly sharing intelligence and strengthening information networks, especially during emergencies. This inclusive approach aims to create a comprehensive security net during the festive season.
