The NNPC Limited-Chevron Nigeria Limited Joint Venture has made a groundbreaking oil discovery in the Niger Delta, specifically in the shallow offshore area of the Western Niger Delta, Okay.ng reports.

This significant find was made possible through the successful drilling of the Meji NW-1 well, located in Petroleum Mining Lease 49.

The well, which began operations on September 2, 2024, reached a total depth of 8,983 feet by September 13, uncovering approximately 690 feet of hydrocarbons within Miocene sands. This discovery appraises an extension of the already productive Meji field and demonstrates Chevron’s commitment to developing and growing its Nigerian resources.

Chevron’s General Manager, Olusoga Oduselu, highlighted that this accomplishment aligns with the company’s broader global exploration goals, focusing on finding new resources to extend the life of producing assets and deliver production with shorter development cycle times.
