The concept of securities lending involves the temporary transfer of securities from the holder (lender) to another party (borrower) for a fee.
The borrower commits to returning the securities to the lender either upon demand or at the end of the agreed loan term.
To safeguard against counterparty credit risk, the borrower typically provides collateral in the form of cash or other securities of equal or greater value.
Securities lending plays a pivotal role in capital markets by enhancing liquidity, reducing trading costs, and fostering price discovery.
