The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) welcomes Dr. Aminu Maida as the new Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) with a commitment to advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
In his inaugural address to the Senior Management team of the Commission at its Abuja Headquarters on Tuesday, Maida articulated his strategic vision to ensure nationwide access to affordable and reliable broadband services, thereby amplifying Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.
Highlighting the need for a comprehensive digital roadmap, Maida stressed the significance of bolstering broadband connectivity to facilitate not only seamless digital transactions but also serve as a cornerstone for e-governance and other critical socio-economic initiatives.
Recognizing the critical role of telecom infrastructure in the wake of a burgeoning digital landscape, he emphasized the imperative of addressing pertinent challenges, including the Right of Way (RoW) issue and ensuring robust security for telecom infrastructure.
“We must be driven by a commitment to enhance quality of service (QoS) indicators and prioritize quality of experience (QoE) as our ultimate goal,” Maida asserted.
“This entails aligning with President Tinubu’s vision of increasing broadband penetration to 70 percent and extending coverage to 90 percent of the population by 2025. We must remain performance-driven, underpinned by unwavering dedication to fostering a resilient telecom industry.”
In line with the Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy Dr. Bosun Tijani’s strategic plan and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, Maida affirmed his resolve to steer the NCC towards supporting initiatives focused on job creation and facilitating the digital economy.
He emphasized the pivotal role of the Commission in enabling the digital empowerment of three million Nigerians through strategic collaboration with institutions such as the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) in digital skills and entrepreneurship development.
Recognizing the crucial role of effective spectrum management in driving digital connectivity, Maida underscored the necessity of robust and efficient spectrum utilization to ensure seamless service delivery across various sectors and businesses in Nigeria.
The EVC applauded the contributions of his predecessors and encouraged the entire NCC team to join forces in advancing the digital transformation imperative, contributing to the achievement of sustainable development and an improved quality of life for all Nigerians.
