In a ceremony held at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun was sworn in as the 23rd acting Chief Justice of Nigeria. She pledged to increase Nigerians’ trust in the judicial system, emphasizing that it is a collective responsibility.

Kekere-Ekun acknowledged the need for improvement in the judiciary and promised to address concerns such as the appointment process for judicial officers. She expressed her commitment to reforming the system and ensuring that people have greater confidence in the judiciary.

The new Chief Justice, who succeeds Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, emphasized the importance of cooperation and collective effort in achieving a better judiciary. She encouraged Nigerians to have faith in the system and to work together towards improvement.

Kekere-Ekun’s tenure is expected to last until her retirement in 2028. She assumes office in an acting capacity pending her confirmation by the Senate. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
