Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has stated that the appointment of his predecessor, Bello Matawalle, as Minister of State for Defence has not conferred any advantage on the state.

Despite Matawalle’s position, the state continues to suffer from banditry attacks, including a recent attack on his hometown that left many dead.

Lawal has criticized the Federal Government-controlled security agencies for their laidback attitude in combating banditry and has established a state-backed security outfit, Community Protection Guards, to address the issue.

The governor has also expressed frustration with the police and military’s attitude towards banditry, stating that they do not take instructions from him and are not effective in addressing the problem.
