Marin Cilic reached his first Wimbledon final with a four-set win over American Sam Querrey on Centre Court after four sets.
Seventh seed Cilic won 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 in two hours and 56 minutes, and will next face Roger Federer or Tomas Berdych.
The Croatian Cilic won the US Open in 2014 but had never been past the quarter-finals at Wimbledon before this year.
“It’s unbelievable, especially the way this tournament unfolded. I was playing really great tennis from the first round, said the 29 year-old after his triumph over the 24th seeded American.
With this success , Cilic in his 11th attempt become the first Croatian to reach Wimledon final since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001.
“Sam was playing high level tennis especially in the first set. I was 4-1 up in the tie-break and didn’t convert. After that I was better in the return games. I thought the level was really high.
“I came out serving huge and hitting big. He was not tight at all. I was definitely glad to get the break back in the fourth set.
“I’m feeling positive on the court. It’s extremely important. My emotions are helping me a little bit.”
