In a robust enforcement initiative aimed at curbing criminal activities on Lagos Island, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce executed a midnight raid early Friday morning, May 23, 2025.

The operation commenced at 1:30 a.m. and swept through hotspots including Victoria Island, Falomo, the Eko Hotel area, Osborne, and adjacent streets.

Authorities arrested a total of 62 individuals—comprising 59 men and 3 women—who were suspected of engaging in unlawful activities that had become increasingly prevalent in these districts. The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, highlighted the importance of the raid in a statement posted on his verified X account.

“In continuation of the agency’s clean-up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements, operatives of the Environmental Taskforce team set out at about 0130hrs on Friday, 23rd May 2025 and embarked on its ongoing clean-up enforcement operation on the Island,” Wahab wrote.

He added that the operation specifically targeted areas with a high incidence of disruptive behavior, noting, “The areas visited during the operation include Victoria Island, Falomo, Eko Hotel, Osborne and other adjoining streets where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.”

The commissioner confirmed that following the arrests, “All the suspects will be charged to court accordingly,” signaling a no-tolerance approach to crime and a firm commitment to restoring public order.
