The Lagos State House of Assembly reconvened on Thursday, nearly a month after Mudashiru Obasa was removed as Speaker over allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office.

Despite the gravity of the leadership shake-up, Obasa was absent at the plenary session, while 36 lawmakers were present to resume legislative duties.

During the session, Abiodun Tobun, who represents Epe Constituency I, took the floor to commend the Federal Government’s economic policies, stating that insecurity in Lagos had been curtailed significantly.

Tobun further moved a motion requesting the House to send a letter of commendation to the presidency for its impactful policies.

Other lawmakers, including Gbolahan Yishawu from Eti-Osa Constituency II, took turns highlighting key initiatives introduced by the Federal Government, expressing optimism about their long-term benefits.

Speaker Mojisola Meranda, presiding over the session, joined in applauding President Bola Tinubu, stating that the President has approved loan access for small-scale businesses, and the stock market capitalisation is growing. She noted that these were signs that Nigeria is on the right track.

Additionally, she praised First Lady Remi Tinubu for her commitment to national development.

Meanwhile, the leadership crisis that had gripped the Lagos Assembly in the past weeks seemed to have fizzled out, as no mention was made of Obasa’s impeachment or the controversy surrounding his removal.
