The Lagos State Government has announced the diversion of traffic on the Badagry carriageway to facilitate ongoing reconstruction work.
The diversion is set to begin on August 26 and will continue until January 31, 2025, according to a statement released on Friday by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State.
Osiyemi explained that the traffic diversion will be implemented in sections to reduce the inconvenience to motorists.
The first phase of the reconstruction will focus on the stretch of road at the Durbar junction, Badagry bound, affecting both toll lanes and service lanes. This phase will run from August 26 to September 30.
The statement said: “Traffic going to Badagry from Lagos (repair on the toll lane)—traffic inward Badagry from Lagos on the toll lane will be diverted to the service lane at 100 meters (subject to site condition) away from the proposed repair location.
“And to exit the service lane back to the toll lane 100 meters (subject to site condition) away from the Durbar Junction to continue their journeys.”
For vehicles traveling towards Badagry from Lagos on the service lane, the traffic will be diverted to the toll lane 100 meters away from the repair site.
The diverted traffic will then exit the toll lane and return to the service lane 100 meters from Durbar junction to proceed to their various destinations.
Osiyemi further outlined that traffic heading towards Badagry from Durbar road would be rerouted to Fagbems road, moving inward to Apple junction and connecting to Festac road.
From there, motorists can continue towards Alakija road to access the Lagos-Badagry expressway and reach their final destinations.
The Commissioner appealed to motorists for their patience and understanding during the reconstruction period, noting that traffic inbound Lagos from Badagry would flow freely.
He assured the public that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to coordinate traffic movement along the affected axis.
“Notifications will be released for the other sections at the completion of the first section,” Osiyemi added, indicating that further updates will be provided as the reconstruction progresses.
