The National Deputy Chairman (South-East) of the Labour Party (LP), Hon. Ceekay Igara, has refuted claims that Barrister Casmir Agbo has been removed as the Chairman of the party in Enugu State.
Speaking to journalists after a one-day stakeholders’ meeting at the LP state secretariat in Enugu, Igara clarified that the Agbo-led executive remains in office, dismissing reports of its dissolution as false and unfounded.
The clarification comes amid claims by some party members in the state that the Agbo-led executive had been sacked. Igara described these claims as baseless, emphasizing that there is no crisis within the Enugu State chapter of the Labour Party.
“What I am doing is to talk to our officers because there are some people going around saying they are Labour Party leaders. We have decided as a party to let every Nigerian know that there are no divisions in the Labour Party. The party has Dr. Julius Abure as the National Chairman, and if you come to Enugu State, Dr. Casmir Agbo is the state chairman,” Igara stated.
He further described the alleged emergence of a new state executive as misleading, reiterating that the party remains united under the leadership of Dr. Julius Abure at the national level and Dr. Casmir Agbo in Enugu State.
The stakeholders’ meeting was convened to address the misinformation and reaffirm the party’s commitment to unity and stability. Igara urged party members and the public to disregard any claims of leadership changes, assuring them that the Labour Party in Enugu State is functioning harmoniously under its duly elected executives.
“There is no crisis in the Enugu State chapter of the Labour Party. We are focused on strengthening the party and preparing for future elections. Any reports suggesting otherwise are false and should be ignored,” he added.
The Labour Party has been working to consolidate its presence in the South-East region, and the dismissal of these claims underscores its efforts to maintain cohesion and focus on its political objectives.
