JAMB to Scrap Use of Scratch Cards for UTME Registration, Results Checking

The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB), will scrap the use of scratch cards to register for and check UTME results, the board’s Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyode on Tuesday announced.

Speaking at the National Executive Council meeting of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) in Abuja, he said this would begin next year.

Students would generate a PIN number for themselves from their phone or computers before registering for examinations, he said.

JAMB would not support a situation where banks and vendors hoard the cards, only to sell them at a higher price, he added.

He also challenged NASU to get involved in the ownership of Computer-Based Testing Centres, saying those who own the centres are businessmen merely exploiting students.

  • Aa per NASU being advised to have centers for Jamb cbt is highly welcome and long overdue owing to the fact that NASU need not be told of Zero tolerance Examinations in aiding and abetting examinations malpractices.
During the Cbt exams of 2016 I happened to be in Offa federal polytechnic with Hassan K Bello a dean and product of university of Ilorin like me.i was impressed for the level of integrity displayed by the centres.According to those that wrote the cbt exams the report was that the network was ok and supervisors including jamb staff ensured thoroughness without any prejudice.
I would therefore advise Jsmb registrar to encourage higher institutions to be involved in getting facilities for the exams.
Suffice to mention that any higher institution that does not have respect for academic integrity is not worth being existence.
Jamb should ensure and guarantee database that can not be manipulated from the backend otherwise some dubious programmer not found worthy in learning and character may sabotage or compromise the integrity of the exam thereby paving way controversy and blackmail.
Jamb registrar need to examine this area.once exams has been finally submitted it should become read only both at frontend and backend.
Relational database can easily be manipulated.
