The Court of Appeal on Tuesday affirmed the election victory of Emeka Ihedioha as the governor of Imo State.

Okay.ng understands that the court also dismissed appeals against Mr Ihedioha’s victory filed by the Action Alliance (AA), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The appellants argued that Ihedioha did not obtain the constitutionally required one-quarter of the votes cast in at least, two-thirds of the 27 local government areas of the state, as provided under Section 179 of the Constitution.

They, however, prayed the court to set aside the decision of the tribunal and declare them winners of the election or order a rerun.

It can be recalled that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal for Imo State, sitting in Abuja, had in September upheld Ihedioha’s election.
