On Thursday night, bandits invaded the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, Okene in Kogi State, abducting an unknown number of students. The attack occurred around 9 pm while students were preparing for their upcoming exams.
According to eyewitnesses, the bandits entered the university through the bush, shooting into the air to scare students and then trapping them in three lecture halls.
Local security guards and conventional security personnel engaged the bandits, minimizing the damage, but some students were still taken away.
The students were preparing for their first-semester examination, scheduled to start on May 13, when the attack occurred. One student, who wished to remain anonymous, said he and some colleagues hid in the bush for over an hour until the situation became quiet.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulraman Asipita, confirmed the incident but refused to provide details on the number of students abducted. Efforts to reach the Commissioner of Police in Kogi and the State Security Adviser were unsuccessful.
