In this article, we will answer some of the frequently asked questions about Galaxy AI and what it means for Samsung users.

What is Galaxy AI?

Galaxy AI is a comprehensive mobile AI experience that Samsung describes as “universal intelligence on your phone as you’ve never seen it before.” It is not a single app or service, but a collection of AI features that will be integrated into various Samsung apps and functions, such as phone, messages, S Note, camera, and more. Galaxy AI will leverage the capabilities of Samsung Gauss, the company’s in-house language model developed for clever AI applications, as well as other cloud-based AI tools from its partners.

What are some of the features of Galaxy AI?

Samsung has not revealed all the details of Galaxy AI yet, but it has given one example of how it will appear in future phones. AI Live Translate Call, which will be available on the latest Galaxy AI phone, will provide audio and text translations in real time during phone calls made through Samsung’s native phone app. It sounds similar to the Pixel Live Caption feature currently available on Pixel phones, but with the added benefit of translating different languages. Samsung says that AI Live Translate Call will work locally on the device, meaning that private conversations will never leave your phone.

Samsung also hints that Galaxy AI will offer features that improve barrier-free communication, simplified productivity, and unconstrained creativity. For example, Galaxy AI could help you write better messages, notes, or emails with smart suggestions and corrections. It could also help you edit your photos and videos with advanced effects and filters. Or it could help you discover new content and information with personalized recommendations and insights.

How will Galaxy AI affect the performance and battery life of Samsung phones?

Samsung claims that Galaxy AI will not compromise the performance and battery life of its phones, as it will use both on-device and cloud-based AI to optimize the user experience. On-device AI means that some of the AI features will run locally on the phone’s processor, without requiring an internet connection or sending data to the cloud. This will reduce the latency and bandwidth consumption, as well as enhance the privacy and security of the user data. Cloud-based AI means that some of the AI features will rely on the internet and the cloud servers to access more data and computing power. This will enable more complex and diverse AI applications, as well as faster updates and improvements.

Samsung says that its phones will intelligently switch between on-device and cloud-based AI depending on the situation and the user preference. For example, if you are in a low-signal area or have a limited data plan, you can choose to use only on-device AI. Or if you want to access the latest and most advanced AI features, you can choose to use cloud-based AI. Samsung also says that its phones will use AI to optimize the battery life and performance of the device, by learning your usage patterns and adjusting the settings accordingly.

Which Samsung phones will support Galaxy AI?

Samsung has not confirmed which phones will support Galaxy AI, but it is likely that the upcoming Galaxy S24 lineup will be the first to debut the new AI experience. The Galaxy S24 series is rumored to launch in January 2024, according to Korean news outlet SBS Biz.

The Galaxy S24 phones are expected to feature Samsung’s new Exynos 2200 processor, which has a dedicated AI engine called the NPU (Neural Processing Unit). The NPU will enable faster and more efficient on-device AI processing, as well as support Samsung Gauss and other AI models.

Samsung may also bring Galaxy AI to some of its older phones through software updates, depending on the hardware compatibility and the user demand.

However, it is possible that not all Galaxy AI features will be available on older phones, as some of them may require more advanced hardware or software components.

Why is Galaxy AI important for Samsung and its users?

Galaxy AI is important for Samsung and its users because it represents a new era of mobile innovation and differentiation. Samsung has been the world’s largest smartphone maker for years, but it faces increasing competition from other brands, especially in the premium segment.

Samsung needs to offer something unique and compelling to its customers, beyond the usual improvements in design, display, camera, and performance. Galaxy AI could be that something, as it could provide a more personalized, convenient, and intelligent mobile experience that sets Samsung apart from its rivals.

Galaxy AI is also important for Samsung and its users because it reflects Samsung’s vision and values. Samsung has always been a pioneer and a leader in the field of AI, investing heavily in research and development, as well as collaborating with other industry and academic partners.

Samsung believes that AI can improve the lives of people and society, by solving various challenges and creating new opportunities. Galaxy AI is Samsung’s way of bringing its AI expertise and ambition to its mobile devices, and sharing its benefits with its users around the world.
