Funke Akindele, the acclaimed Nigerian actress and filmmaker, has once again etched her name in the annals of Nollywood history with her latest directorial venture, “A Tribe Called Judah.”

The film has achieved a remarkable milestone by grossing an unprecedented sum of 1 billion Naira at the Nigerian box office within just three weeks of its release, setting a new record as the fastest Nollywood movie to reach this financial feat.

Released in December 2023, “A Tribe Called Judah” has not only broken the speed record but has also become the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of all time. The film’s earnings are still counting, solidifying Funke Akindele’s position as the highest-grossing Nollywood director in history.

The movie, a heartfelt and comedic drama, narrates the tale of a single mother and her five sons who, grappling with financial challenges, devise a plan to rob a mall.

However, their scheme takes an unexpected turn when they cross paths with another group of robbers already at the scene.

Starring an ensemble cast including Funke Akindele, Timini Egbuson, Jide Kene Achufusi, Uzee Usman, Tobi Makinde, Olumide Oworu, Genoveva Umeh, Nse Ikpe Etim, Juliana Olayode, Uzor Arukwe, Fathia Balogun, Yvonne Jegede, and more, the film has received acclaim for its strong performances, engaging storyline, and touches of humor. Audiences nationwide have resonated with the movie’s themes of family, love, and resilience.

Directed by Funke Akindele and co-produced by Akindele and Adeoluwa Owu, “A Tribe Called Judah” has garnered praise for its cultural significance and storytelling prowess.

FilmOne Distribution, breaking the news of the film’s historic achievement on their Instagram page, congratulated Akindele, the entire cast, and crew for their exceptional success. The post hailed the film as a “testament to the power of storytelling, cultural pride, and the unyielding spirit of Nollywood.”
