Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed outrage over a contractor’s abandonment of the Bori internal road project despite receiving 80% payment. The contractor, who was not named, had received over N4.8 billion out of the total project value of N6 billion.
Governor Fubara, who visited the project site in Bori Town, Khana Local Government Area, on Saturday, ordered the contractor to return to site immediately and complete the project or face severe consequences.
The Governor, who was visibly angry, stated that he had made two payments for the project, including N2 billion in June 2023 and another N2 billion in December 2023, totaling 80% of the project value. He expressed surprise that the contractor would claim that the government was not interested in completing the project, which is located in his Senatorial District.
Governor Fubara also revealed that the contractor had sacked his front desk officer for receiving a letter from the Ministry of Works demanding an update on the project. He described this incident as “very disturbing propaganda.”
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, released a statement quoting the Governor as saying, “I came here this afternoon to inspect the Bori internal roads under construction. And, honestly speaking, my major reason for coming here is because we got a very disturbing propaganda.”
