The Dutse Emirate Council confirmed the passing of Bello Maitama Yusuf, the former Minister of Commerce during the Second Republic, at the age of 76.

The council announced the news on its official Facebook page, expressing condolences to the Emir, the family, and the people of the emirate.

Bello Maitama Yusuf, who held the esteemed title of Sardaunan Dutse, passed away in the early hours of Friday, leaving behind a legacy of significant contributions to Nigerian governance and public service.

The late politician served as the Minister for Internal Affairs in 1979 and later as the Minister for Commerce in 1982.

With an illustrious career, he was elected to the Nigerian Senate for the Jigawa South West constituency in April 1999 and was reelected in April 2003.

Bello Maitama Yusuf was an alumnus of North Gate University, Washington, and was an active member of the defunct National Party of Nigeria.
