Federal Poly Bida Suspends Lecturer For Raping Student

The Federal Polytechnic, Bida, has suspended a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration for allegedly raping an ND1 student in the department.

Our correspondent gathered that the lecturer was caught in the act.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command, Bala Elkana, confirmed the incident, adding that the culprit would remain in police custody pending the completion of investigation.

Elkana said the victim had been receiving treatment at the school medical centre.

Also, the Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Alhaji Hussaini Enagi, disclosed to our correspondent that the official involved was a senior employee of the institution and he had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation by the disciplinary committee.

He said that the lecturer had also been placed on half salary.

“It is true that there have been an allegation of rape against one of our lecturers. The case has been referred to the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for investigation and recommendation.

“The alleged crime is also being investigated by the police. The official has been suspended and will also receive half salary pending the outcome of the committee’s investigation.”

Enagi stated that the management would not interfere with the investigation, adding that whatever recommendation was given would be ratified by the polytechnic’s authorities.

It was gathered that there had been a series of complaints of sexual harassment against the lecturer by female students.
