A new report has revealed that the English Premier League is now the most profitable league in Europe ahead of the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1.
According to a new report by Deloitte’s annual review of football finance, the Premier League’s 20 clubs earned a combined income of $5 billion with an operating profits of $946m.
The Premier League’s rise in financial power has been helped by income from TV rights.
This is the first time the EPL has over taken the Bundesliga whose clubs’ income are almost three times lesser than that of their English counterparts.
The La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A all suffered losses in the year under review.
“The size of the Premier League prize grows ever greater and this year again demonstrates that the desire to reach the league,” Dan Jones, a partner in Deloitte’s sports business division said.
