Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has stated that he does not consider cannabis, commonly referred to as weed, a hard drug.
The singer made the remark during an appearance on the latest episode of The Morning Hustle podcast, where he discussed his foundation’s planned donation to orphanages and its efforts to combat drug abuse among youths.
Davido addressed criticisms labeling him a hypocrite for advocating against drug abuse while being known to smoke weed.
He clarified his stance, emphasizing that he views cannabis differently from other substances.
“This year, I’m donating to the fight against drug abuse among youths,” he said. “I don’t count weed as a hard drug. Some people are saying I smoke weed, but I don’t count weed as a drug.”
The award-winning artist expressed concern about the rising cases of drug addiction among young people, stressing the need for collective efforts to address the issue.
“A lot of people have been going through a lot recently. Drug addiction is becoming rampant. So I want to donate to that cause to help them quit,” he added.
