Controversial rapper Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been granted bail after spending nearly a month in police custody.

The news was confirmed by his counsel, Stanley Alieke, who announced the development via Instagram on Monday. “Apki has been granted bail by the court,” Alieke wrote, without providing further details.

Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, following allegations of a verbal attack on Afrofusion superstar Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy.

The rapper’s legal troubles have been a source of public controversy, with one of his lawyers, Deji Adeyanju, alleging that Burna Boy was behind his client’s arrest.

Darlington’s criticism of Burna Boy stems from the Grammy winner’s association with embattled U.S. rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing allegations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

Despite his arrest, Darlington vowed to continue speaking out against Burna Boy, claiming he intends to hold the artist accountable for his ties to Diddy.

In a prior update, Adeyanju revealed that a Fundamental Rights Enforcement Procedure (FREP) application had been granted, mandating that Speed Darlington be either arraigned in court or released within 48 hours.

“Our FREP application for Speed Darlington a.k.a has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Issues around injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail,” Adeyanju had stated.
