Chidimma Adetshina, a 23-year-old Nigerian beauty queen, has made history by emerging as the first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, marking Nigeria’s best-ever performance in the prestigious global pageant.
The event took place with over 120 contestants from around the world vying for the crown.
Adetshina finished second behind Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, who was crowned the winner.
The top five were rounded out by Miss Mexico, María Fernanda Beltrán Figueroa, in third place, alongside contestants from Thailand and Venezuela.
This achievement is a landmark moment for Nigeria, as Adetshina becomes the first Nigerian to secure the first runner-up position in the history of the competition.
Her journey to the top was not without challenges. Adetshina faced significant online harassment and bullying rooted in her Nigerian heritage, shedding light on ongoing issues of inclusivity and acceptance in global beauty platforms.
