ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot developed by OpenAI and backed by Microsoft, resumed service on Friday after a temporary outage disrupted access for thousands of users worldwide.

OpenAI confirmed the resolution in a statement on its website, saying, “Issues with ChatGPT have now been resolved.”

The outage, which began earlier in the day, left many users unable to access the AI-powered chatbot. OpenAI reported that access was restored to most users by 4:34 p.m. PT (0034 GMT on Saturday), with a small group of users still facing minor issues until 5 p.m. (0100 GMT).

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman addressed the disruption in a post on X (formerly Twitter), acknowledging the downtime and adding a frown emoji. “ChatGPT had been down for 30 minutes,” Altman wrote. “We are much, much better at reliability than we used to be, but clearly more work in front of us.”
