Buni Secures Second Term as Yobe State Governor with Landslide Victory

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has been declared the winner of the 2023 governorship election in the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results at its headquarters in Damaturu on Sunday.

According to the State Returning Officer, Prof Umar Pate, Buni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured a total of 317,113 votes to emerge victorious.

This was well ahead of his closest rival, Sheriff Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 104,259 votes.

Buni, a former caretaker chairman of the APC, is returning to office for the second time under the APC.

He first served as the governor of Yobe State from 2019 to 2023 before being re-elected in the just-concluded election.
